College moving is part of our story. Student Movers® began at UC Davis and now helps families with local and long-distance moves throughout California and out of state. Whether your student is bringing a few packed boxes to a furnished apartment or a full household to an unfurnished rental, the right plan starts with the building and the belongings.

For a broader packing and preparation checklist, see our Southern California college move-in guide.

Choose the Moving Help Your Family Needs

Crew + Moving Truck

For furniture, beds, boxes and apartment relocations, request a crew and truck for loading, transportation and unloading. Tell us about stairs, elevators and parking when booking.

Plan a full-service college move →

Labor-Only Moving Help

Already have a rental truck or moving container? Request movers for loading or unloading while your family provides transportation. Packing help can also be discussed when booking.

Reserve loading or unloading help →

A four-hour minimum applies to crew-plus-truck and labor-only services. Request the applicable rates and charges for your move before booking.

Moving to UC Irvine: Start With Your Housing Assignment

Our UCI move-in photos show why access matters: rolling bins, elevators, shared corridors and apartment buildings all shape the unloading plan. Our Irvine movers can help you plan around the property details you provide. Confirm your assigned arrival time, unloading location, visitor access and any restrictions on outside movers with your housing community before reserving a crew.

Plaza Verde and Other ACC Apartments

UCI’s American Campus Communities apartments include Plaza Verde, Plaza Verde II, Camino del Sol, Vista del Campo, Vista del Campo Norte and Puerta del Sol. These communities offer furnished apartments, so check the contents of your specific unit before bringing extra furniture. Confirm the approved unloading route and cart availability directly with the property.

Mesa Court Housing: Classic Halls and Towers

On the west side of campus, Mesa Court combines classic residence halls with mid-rise towers. UCI now lists 29 classic halls and four towers, including the newer Oso Tower. Your student’s specific hall matters more than a general campus address: confirm the assigned unloading route, elevator or stair access, and the distance between the vehicle and the room.

Middle Earth Housing: Laurelin, Telperion and Classic Halls

Middle Earth’s Lord of the Rings theme makes this community memorable, but families still need a building-specific moving plan. The modern towers are Laurelin and Telperion; classic halls include names such as Balin, Elrond and Rivendell. Check which building your student has been assigned before deciding how to move boxes and whether to bring additional furnishings.

Arroyo Vista: 42 Theme Houses

Arroyo Vista consists of 42 houses, including academic, cultural and fraternity or sorority theme houses. Share the house assignment with your movers and follow the community’s current parking directions. Do not assume that a space beside an individual house is available for unloading.

Graduate and Family Housing

Palo Verde, Verano Place and Campus Village offer unfurnished apartments. These moves may include beds, sofas, desks and dining furniture, making a furniture inventory especially useful. Measure large pieces and tell us about stairs or elevator access before move day.

Chapman, UCLA and Other Southern California Colleges

Chapman University: Sandhu, The K and Old Towne Orange

Chapman families may be moving into a residence hall, university apartment or nearby rental. Before bringing a moving vehicle, read the instructions for the exact property. Chapman’s published move-in guidance lists a seven-foot parking-structure clearance and states that rental trucks, attached trailers and storage pods are not allowed. Contact Residence Life about your building and proposed moving arrangements before reserving a truck or outside crew.

  • Sandhu Residence Center: Check the approved route before arrival. Chapman specifically restricts vehicles with rooftop storage from entering the Sandhu Parking Structure. Confirm whether outside moving help is permitted and where that crew may unload; an exterior staging area must be approved rather than assumed.
  • The K Residence Hall: Obtain the building-specific arrival and unloading instructions. Share the approved entrance, parking location and move-in window with your moving coordinator. Keep streets, access lanes and courtyards clear.
  • Off-campus homes in Old Towne Orange: Ask the landlord about parking, stairs, doorway widths and property protection. Measuring furniture and planning narrow porch turns can help protect belongings and the home during loading and unloading.

UCLA: The Hill, De Neve and Westwood Apartments

At UCLA, start with your student’s assigned unloading zone in the housing portal. UCLA directs families to that zone using staff and signs, then sends vehicles to longer-term parking after unloading. The university also provides move-in assistance during its organized arrival period. Check what that assistance includes before deciding whether your family needs additional moving services.

  • De Neve, Sunset Village, Olympic and Centennial: These are distinct housing locations. Use your assigned directions instead of treating De Neve Drive or another nearby street as a general unloading area. Tell us about the building and approved access arrangements when discussing a move.
  • Private apartments near Landfair, Midvale or Glenrock: Confirm the address, available loading space, stairs and elevator reservations with the property manager. If a curb reservation or permit is needed, arrange it with the appropriate authority. Our plan should use a permitted unloading location and an agreed route to the unit.

CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, UCR, UC San Diego and USC

We can discuss moves to and from these campus areas, including nearby apartments and shared homes. Before booking, confirm your student’s destination address, housing access rules and permitted arrival window. A furnished dorm move and an off-campus apartment relocation may require very different services.

Families starting in coastal Orange County can also explore our Huntington Beach moving services, Newport Beach movers and Costa Mesa moving services.

Our UCI Move-In Work With University and Student Services

During our UC Irvine move-in work, Student Movers® collaborated with University and Student Services (USS) and Paul Peseski to support the campus moving operation. The photos in this guide show the setting: rolling Speed Pak bins, apartment walkways, elevator access and families arriving with belongings.

For parents, that experience has a practical takeaway: the route and coordination matter just as much as the load. Knowing where to check in, where belongings may be unloaded and how items will reach the room helps everyone work from the same plan. We bring that attention to the college moves families book directly with us, with services tailored to the property’s requirements.

Founded on campus tradition: Student Movers® started at UC Davis. Our UC Davis alumni business profile shares more about founder Shawn Wood and the company’s college roots.

The Parent’s College Move-In Checklist

  1. Confirm access before booking. Get the arrival window, unloading address, parking instructions and outside-mover requirements from housing.
  2. Check what is already furnished. Coordinate with roommates before buying shared appliances, furniture or kitchen supplies.
  3. Make a realistic inventory. Include boxes, furniture, mattresses and unusually large items. Send photos if you are unsure what to describe.
  4. Label for the destination. Put the student’s name, building or unit and contents on each box without displaying unnecessary personal information.
  5. Pack an open-first bag. Keep medications, identification, chargers, toiletries, bedding and a change of clothes with your student.
  6. Prepare for the route. Confirm garage height limits, stairs, elevators and walking distance from the approved unloading area.
  7. Reserve once housing details are confirmed. Discuss timing and availability early, especially during peak move-in periods.
